Humans: students' opinions on classes
In a school like ERHS (which is full of diversity), it’s hard to find something all students have in common. Each of us is unique, with different dreams, goals, and opinions. Of course, our differences don’t separate us, and there are things that we all share in common―at least, one thing. What is that? All of us have to go to school and sit through classes, whether it be AP classes, DP classes, or LACC. So what do students really think about classes? Is there a most importan

JDD: A night of jazz
April 23rd marked this year’s Junior Dinner Dance, an eagerly awaited event for all juniors who craved a slice of fun amidst a stressful school year. The venue was beautifully adorned with elegant decor, at the La Canada Country Club in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. The night started off with Eagle Rock’s very own jazz band performing some amazing tunes and adding to the atmosphere of the event, which was themed A Night of Jazz. The patio overlooked a gorgeous

"Can You Dig It?": The Beatles’ four film biopic series set to release in 2028
Art by Rebecca Pack After an estimated 50 years of the group’s dissolution, Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes is bringing the world-renowned and beloved band The Beatles back to life with a four film biopic series set to release in April of 2028. In the initial months of 2024, Sony Pictures confirmed the project, sparking both joy and concern among fans (myself included). Now comes the real question: Can You Dig It? Should Mendes have just Let it Be, or will audience reaction

Fashion profile: Mr. Gudex
cover art by Evie Campbell Teacher by day, fashionista always, Mr. Gudex is a fashion icon. If you see him walking the halls, you’ll notice bright colors and an even brighter energy. He loves to blend his love of fashion into his work, and thinks thoughtfully about his outfits every day, planning the outfit he wears to work the night before, to feel prepared for the next busy day. photo by Eva Jones Who’s your biggest fashion inspiration? “Myself.” “Fashion is something that

Broken News: The Finale³
Well Eagles, it's episode 8. And that means that Broken News has come to an end. For now, at least. Honestly, I can't believe we've kept this show running for 3 years. It started as a one-time thing and suddenly it's something I'm expected to create every month. It's weird handing over that responsibility to someone else, even someone I trust as much as Irene. Being in charge of Broken News this year felt like taking care of my kid. Well, kind of, because it's not really MY k

BTS’s recent comeback
album cover After being gone for a long four years, BTS returned from their hiatus this March. Their comeback featured many interviews as well as a comeback tour and album. Being one of―if not the world’s biggest K-Pop group, BTS’s fans (also known as Army) had high expectations for this album. But is it really that good? After listening to the entire album, I have some thoughts about it. DISCLAIMER: ALL THE RATING AND REVIEWS FOR THIS ALBUM IS STRICTLY MY OPINION ONLY. I WO

Humans of Eagle Rock: Coaches edition
All photos by Ellie Cole-Calderon and Winter Ryu-Whitney What song gets you pumped? Mr. Pierce: “Lose Yourself” by Eminem. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you pick? Mr. Martinez: Anywhere where the snow is really good. Right now, Mammoth would be great. What's your spirit animal? Mr. Aguilar: An eagle. Eagle for Aguilar. What do you feel is unique to your sports (flag football and basketball)? Ms. Wilkins: Flag football is fairly new and a lot of

Coachella 2026 hits & misses
All photos by Zadie Kang Festival season is upon us once again, which means Coachella officially kicked off on April 10th. As a big concert-goer myself, this year marked my second time attending the festival, and I’m here to tell you what worked and what didn’t this weekend. Hit: Performances at Mojave The Mojave stage this year was packed with big names, most notably FKA Twigs, Iggy Pop, and Ethel Cain, which ended up being some of the most memorable performances of the wee

Vanishing wildlife
Art by Emaline Varava Animal Extinction: A Growing Global Problem Animals have been going extinct for millions of years due to natural changes on Earth. Today, however, extinction is happening much faster than normal because of human actions. Deforestation, pollution, climate change, overhunting, and illegal wildlife trade are destroying habitats and reducing animal populations around the world. When animals go extinct, ecosystems become unbalanced, which can affect entire ec

HL's Kitchen: part one
Art by Jarisse Nabung Eagle Rock High School has long been a peaceful place. When you enter campus, it is as if you are stepping into a mystical garden of whimsy and joy. But do not be fooled by the school’s tranquil exterior, as the forbidden garden is riddled with snakes: feuding teachers. As of last semester, twelfth grade teachers—specifically those associated with the IB—were required to create a schedule for their student’s IAs. However, their interests clashed… schedul

Fall on campus: an ERHS photo essay
This fall, I found everything in this school so beautiful, the green in the trees, the grass, the cold air, and especially the views farther out of view. Reflecting on those moments, it would be nice for the soft morning air to circulate back into this season, but I find it better to enjoy the place that I’m in now. Not because I will eventually be back to the cold fall air, but because I can learn to grow through these seasons. When you’re not in your best state, or going th
