If you’re like me and most people in the United States, you like movies. And what’s the one thing better than watching a movie? Watching a movie at a theater! In my opinion, seeing that film you’ve been waiting forever for right as it hits the big screen, while chomping on popcorn and sipping that Icee, always beats streaming a movie at home. So, in honor and recognition of all the AMC Theaters out there, here are some movies of various genres scheduled to come out in the next few months; I really hope you’ll go check one out.
Movie #1: The Unbreakable Boy
Genre: Drama, Family, Coming of Age
Rated PG for strong thematic material, alcohol abuse, mild language and violence
Expected Release: February 21
I almost cried just watching the trailer for this movie. The Unbreakable Boy tells the true story of Austin, a kid dealing with brittle bone disease and autism. Going back to school, Austin faces many challenges but always manages to see the best in every situation. This movie also follows Austin’s father, played by actor Zachary Levi (known for Shazam! and Tangled), and how he fights to protect Austin while trying to follow his optimistic example. In this detailed movie of family importance, you find out just how important it is to stick with the people you love no matter what.
Movie #2: Mickey 17
Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi
Rated R for profanity, substance use, and gore
Expected Release: March 7
Mickey 17, starring actor Robert Pattinson (better known as Edward among many), is a sci-fi movie that follows the adventures of Mickey Barnes, who is sent on an expedition to help colonize the icy planet Niflheim. Mickey is what’s known as an “expendable,” a person who is killed multiple times and each time an exact replica of their body is generated in their place. However, when the 18th version of Mickey is created while Mickey 17 is still alive, chaos arises and a solution must be found.
Movie #3: Snow White
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Musical
Rated PG for minor violence and brief rude humor
Expected Release: March 21
This remake of Disney’s 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is a live-action adaptation starring Rachel Ziegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. This movie follows the beautiful Snow White as she adventures through the forest to hide from her wicked stepmother, the Evil Queen. Along the way, she meets many new friends and has a very musical time, only to fall into love and deception as the Evil Queen works to carry through with her nefarious plot to destroy Snow White. Many people are familiar with the story of Snow White, so the question is whether this film will live up to its original. I guess you’ll have to go see for yourself!
Movie #4: Sinners
Genre: Drama, Horror, Thriller
Rated R for violence/gore, sexual content, and substance use
Expected Release: April 18
Created by award-winning director of the Black Panther series Ryan Coogler, Sinners is a movie about two twin brothers (both played by actor Michael B. Jordan), who decide to return back to their hometown to leave their troubles behind. However, these two brothers could have never imagined what kind of evil was waiting for them back home. This riveting movie is sure to get your blood pumping and your mind racing, so if you’re a fan of horror, you should definitely check it out.
Movie #5: Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller
Rated PG-13 for violence/gore, intensity, and moderate sexual content
Expected Release: May 23
This is the eighth Mission Impossible movie, featuring star Tom Cruise as IMF (Impossible Mission Force) agent Ethan Hunt. Though the title and trailer suggest that this will be the last Mission Impossible movie, neither Tom Cruise nor co-stars have officially approved this, urging viewers to go see the movie instead. Will this be Agent Hunt’s final adventure? From the trailer, it definitely seems like the most dramatic. I would recommend going to find out for yourself!
To conclude, movies have always been a part of our history, and it’s our job to honor that by going to see the latest films. No, that’s not just an excuse to go to the theaters instead of finishing my homework! Seriously, though. Go watch at least one of these movies at your local theater when they come out, and you won’t be disappointed. Because even if the movie itself wasn’t your favorite, you can always count on popcorn and a cherry Icee to lift your spirits. So start marking your calendars right away with these movie debuts! You know you’ll be glad you did.
