As the new year begins, and right after the Grammys, we start to reminisce on the music of the year before. The good, the bad; the great and horrible. It’s all a little foggy to say the least. However, if you forgot, here’s a recap list of the best and most memorable albums of 2024.

Short n’ Sweet - Sabrina Carpenter

As the name suggests, this beautiful album is definitely Short n’ Sweet. Consisting of 12 songs with a 36 minute runtime, each song is intricately made with funny and interesting lyricism all the way from “Taste” to the last song, “Don’t Smile.” Her live production tour of this album was great as well, and it definitely influenced my listening habits for this beautiful album.

The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology - Taylor Swift

Although many think Taylor Swift is overrated, she still has great and amazing songs, especially within her new album The Tortured Poets Department. This double album has 31 tracks that give you a song for any situation in your life anyday, anywhere, anytime. There’s songs that are upbeat and lively with a balance of other slow and sad songs which make this a beautiful arrangement of an album. Her storytelling backed up with enchanting music makes choosing a favorite song difficult, but if I had to choose two, it’d be “The Prophecy” and “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.”

This is How Tomorrow Moves - Beabadoobee

Another little popstar artist: Beabadoobee. Despite coming out in August of 2024, there are many songs that are still really popular today. One of my personal favorites, “Real Man,” is so amazing live and just an overall cute song. However, all the tracks on this album literally feels like I’m listening to flowers and sunshine; her voice is so soothing and perfect for a pop album.

Chromakopia - Tyler the Creator

Despite coming out later in the year, this record is amazing for its pacing, features, and, of course, vocals. One of my favorite recurring style choices from Tyler the Creator is when one song ends, with no cuts, and smoothly flows into the next — more specifically between “St. Chroma” and “Rah Tah Tah” — not only does it help with the pacing, but also the overall connection of the album. Although each song has the same vibe, they’re still all unique.

Eternal Sunshine - Ariana Grande

I absolutely loved this album when it came out. Despite it being snubbed at the Grammys this year, I believe Ariana put her heart and soul into each and every song. “Yes, And?” genuinely had a chokehold on me when she released it as a single, and the overall production of each track is wonderful as well.

Hit Me Hard and Soft - Billie Ellish

I haven’t really listened to Billie Ellish since her debut, but this is such a wonderfully produced album. The background music and the lyrics really touch the soul; “THE GREATEST” and “LUNCH” have amazing vocals from Billie and brilliant storytelling. I don’t have much to say about this album because, lowkey, it’s not really my cup of tea, but I know and can recognize a great album that the artist put a ton of effort into.

Charm - Clairo

Probably the most underrated album on this list: Charm by Clairo. Each and every track is a wonderful masterpiece, and especially great background music. When this album was released I was playing it nonstop: during homework, at school, and just doing whatever!

Honorable Mentions: Alligator Bites Never Heal - Doechii

A wonderful but not well known album of the year has to be Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii. If you don’t know her, she was recently featured in a Tyler the Creator song in his new album, and it has to be one of the best songs on that record. She brings that energy throughout this entire album that brings back the genre of old rap perfectly.

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess - Chappell Roan

I know, I know. This album came out in 2023, but it mainly got its fame and listens from 2024, so here’s its honorable mention. When I first listened to The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, I initially was hesitant on most of the songs; however, it’s definitely grown on me and has become an album I listen to on a regular basis. Despite this being a no skip album, my absolute favorites are “Red Wine Supernova” and “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl;” now relistening to this album makes me so excited for her new release.
