Rejoice, She-ra fans! DreamWorks has announced that we will be getting a She-ra movie, and Chris Pratt has been cast to voice Adora.
The new movie, announced first by Noelle Stevenson on Saturday on their Twitter and confirmed by DreamWorks later that day, is being produced by DreamWorks Animation Television and Mattel Creations, the same production companies that worked on Stevenson’s 2018 reboot of the original series. Stevenson and Chuck Austen are executive producers. So far, no other voice actors have been named for the production besides Pratt.
While neither specific plot details nor a potential title have been revealed yet by Stevenson or DreamWorks, it can be presumed that the new movie will pick up where “She-ra and the Princesses of Power” left off, with the “Best Friends Squad” going on a roadtrip to bring magic back to the universe.
Chris Pratt, a long-time fan of the series, said in an interview on Thursday that he was very excited to receive the call from Stevenson asking him to voice act in the long-awaited She-ra movie.
“I got a call from Noelle after she first pitched the project to the team at DreamWorks, and I was so starstruck! I mean, I know I’m a big, famous movie star and everything, but her work is so fantastic and I just couldn’t believe that she was calling me. And she was like, ‘Hey, Chris, we’re doing a She-ra movie. I want you to voice Adora,’ and I was like ‘Are you sure?’ I just couldn’t believe it. But she was like, ‘Yeah, I’m sure. We think you’d be perfect, Chris.’”
When asked whether he thought any problems would arise from being a straight man voicing a character who is a confirmed lesbian, Pratt said no. “I don’t see how there would be a problem with my casting,” he said. “I can’t think of a single problem that anyone, lesbians especially, would have.”
This announcement adds to the growing list of popular characters Pratt will soon be voicing. Earlier this year, it was announced that he would be voicing Mario in a Mario animated movie and famed Monday-hating, lasagna-loving cat Garfield in another animated Garfield movie.
It’s expected that this list will grow again very soon. It has been all but officially confirmed that Pratt will be voicing Atsumu Miya in the season 4 English dub of “Haikyuu!!,” a popular sports anime about a boys’ volleyball club. For weeks now, he has been posting references to the series, including a photo with a cake of a fan-favorite scene from Haikyuu!!’s second season.
Bryson Baugus, the English voice actor for the anime’s main character, Shoyo Hinata, commented on Pratt’s post with the Hinata shirt, saying, “Excited to have Atsumu sporting Hinata merch!”
Rumours have also been circulating about Pratt taking over all voice acting roles for the season 4 English dub of “Bungou Stray Dogs,” though these are so far unconfirmed.
