The sun beats down on the asphalt ground near the soccer field. Only a few flimsy tree branches provide shade from the fiery ball of doom above. It’s the kind of heat that makes us think of shrimps roasting in an oven. Crack an egg on the blackened ground and it would fry in seconds. Harrison Enriquez sits here.
Harrison wears a pink lacy vest, a ruffle shirt with a floral pattern, and jorts; with only one sock visible. Despite the scorching weather, her outfit strikes a balance between comfort and style. The pink vest, her favorite piece, adds a charming touch; its intricate details complementing the floral pattern on her shirt.
When asked about fashion styles she enjoys, Harrison had this to say: “I like a lot of subcultures- mainly J-fashion. I wear a lot of J-Fashion, but recently, I haven't been wearing it as much.”*
Harrison takes much inspiration from Solya, a singer who meddles in many different styles of music that blend into an eerie, somewhat soothing country tune. Her fashion is certainly an extension of the vibe.
As Harrison's outfit is a demonstration of something, one must be mindful that when drawing her clothing, it is very rarely blank. There are only so many times you can draw someone in the same black hoodie, and there's a reason artists avoid this. When drawing patterns, one must not only be mindful of the pattern itself, but also how it warps, draping over body parts, and other fabrics.
By utilizing these techniques, and taking inspiration from some of Harrison's favorite flowers such as bleeding hearts, mountain laurel, and cardinal flowers, we are left with this artwork.
*J-fashion is short for Japanese Fashion
