On Saturday, December first, the 79th Northeast L.A Christmas parade marched down Figueroa Street. The annual Christmas parade is the second oldest in Los Angeles. Presented by the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce, schools, dance studios, festively decorated vehicles, and more participated to help ring in holiday cheer. Of course, in true L.A fashion, it was 75 degrees and sunny with not a cloud in the sky.
Towards the middle of the parade, Eagle Rock High School’s marching band, cheer team, and drill team represented our school, bringing lots of festive fun to families and spectators.
I asked a few marching band members what it felt like to participate in this holiday event. Second year marcher and ERHS ninth grader, Lucinda Haynes said, “It felt fulfilling to represent my school in a community event such as this parade.”
Maya Martinez, another ninth grader here at ERHS said that it was really fun, and also really tiring. She also described that she enjoyed it because “it was an opportunity to bond with my fellow marching band members and play for the community.”
Overall, the parade was a fun community event for both participants and spectators. I highly recommend that you attend it next year! Happy holidays Eagles!
