Food review #10 the shrimp po'boy

All photos by Charles-Henry Lubatti

On Valentine’s day, our cafeteria released the shrimp po’boys for the first time. They were extremely popular and the general consensus was that it was pretty good. I took the bagged carrots and the strawberry milk which they put out for valentines day.

The po’boy came with a slice of lemon, which was very thin, but it was a nice touch and looked pretty fresh, adding a good acidity to the roll. The po’boy was warm, the bread was good, and it had a slightly crunchy crust. The salad looked fresh but it was kind of stuffed in a corner. There could have been more of it. The sauce was also good, but normally, po’boys have a lot more on them. The cheese was a bit lacking in quantity, so overall, it needed more topping that aren't shrimp. The shrimp was good, but it was very fried. It was hard to taste the shrimp underneath.

Moving on to the carrots: they were in a very juicy bag which wasn’t great, but at least they weren’t bone dry. The carrots were indeed a tad wet and slimy, but they were crisp and flavorful. Overall, they were good- just pour out the juice before you start eating them.

The milk was not good. It was weirdly sweet and tasted like fake strawberry. To be honest, I don’t know why they serve it, it’s not worth trying either.

Overall, I would give the po’boy an 8/10. It tasted fresh and was good, but could improve on the ingredient ratio, the carrots a 7.5/10 but too wet, and the milk was a 1/10. Apparently some people like it. Overall I rate this meal a 7.9/10, excluding the strawberry milk- since there is no reason to take it and no reason for it to exist in the first place.
