NOTE: THIS INFORMATION IS STRICTLY FROM THE PROJECT 2025 DOCUMENT, AND NOT SOURCED FROM PRESIDENT TRUMP'S CAMPAIGN.
For people unfamiliar with the Heritage Foundatiaon’s Mandate For Leadership, dubbed Project 2025, the document is a series of would-be mandated right-wing policies, which half of the three-hundred-and-seven people who wrote it are also directly related to President Trump through his administration, campaign, or transition teams. While Trump denies involvement in Project 2025, he has met with the leaders of the Heritage Foundation like Kevin D. Roberts (president) and Edwin J. Fuelner (co-founder). It's unclear exactly what Trump hopes to enact with Project 2025, however we can infer some of his most poignant objectives: he will likely try to eliminate the Board of Education, certain civil rights, enact mass deportations on immigrants, institute more national book and word bans, establish high tariffs and protectionist trade policies, etc. He has already begun to implement many of these policies. The point of this article is not to fear monger, but instead help spread awareness on this tidal wave of an issue. I plan to address the key points littered throughout the disorganized hell that is Project 2025.
Mass Deportation
In the Mandate, it mentions passing a bill that would bring back completion quotas, which was revoked by the Biden administration. These quotas force judges to cycle through cases more quickly, which results in less time for preparation. Judges may be less disposed to grant continuances for getting an attorney, which leads to unfair court results and cases being rushed. The document also states that funding would be cut from legal services programs that fund asylum aid on top of turning down more migrants seeking asylum. Project 2025 also wants to expand expedited removal policies making it legal to turn down migrants without a court hearing, along with being able to arrest / remove / detain them without the need of a warrant.
Economic Plan
Project 2025 introduces a comprehensive overhaul of the US economic system, with significant changes in taxation, government structure, labor laws, and monetary policy. They plan to incorporate major tax reforms, such as reducing the corporate tax rate from 21% to 18% and would implement a two-tier flat tax system for individual income (15% for incomes up to 168,000, and 30% for higher) AND cutting the capital gains tax for high earners from 20% to 15% ( TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH BABY). One of the more radical propositions from the document is abolishing the federal reserve, and returning fully to the gold standard, which would remove the central banks control of money supply and interest rates. It proposes that we also merge three governmental agencies (Bureau of Economic Analysis, Census Bureau, and Bureau of Labor Statistics), and abolish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau / the Federal Trade Commission. The Project would also see to it that oil / gas drilling increases, regulations on climate change would be reduced, less strict labor laws (such as allowing teens to operate more dangerous jobs with parental consent) would be passed, medicare funding would be cut, etc… The document's economic plan is widely considered unhinged and parts are impossible to enact, like the limited supply of gold, and It's very unlikely any of these policies will even be considered by Mr. Trump.
Dismantling the Department of Education
It's no secret that a large part of Trump's campaign is focused on eliminating federal education, and restoring "Christian values" back into kids' school systems by removing the department of education, leaving it to the states to enforce policies. Project 2025 hopes to double down on these policies and remove as many human rights as possible. States like Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana have already promised to incorporate the bible into education, and more are probably soon to follow. Project 2025 would see to it that Title 1 and the Abolish Head Start Program (both fund low income schools), would be cut along with LGBTQIA+ protection, IDEA (enforces proper education for kids with disabilities), Head Start (early childhood education for low-income families), as well as other bills. Over 60% of students nationally are able to get free lunches, or are eligible for them. Project 2025 would eliminate CEP, which ensures free lunch and breakfast for nearly 20 million students. This would have an absolutely putrid effect on the school system throughout the US, and schools would become more privatized, and education would go from being a necessity to a luxury for those that could afford it- college for kids.
LGBTQIA+ Rights and Book Bans
While there is no current list of books that Project 2025 hopes to terminate, we can assume it would target books that deal with racial and social issues. LGBTQIA+ books for example, would be considered pornographic, and any teacher that shares information regarding sexuality and sexual orientation would be imprisoned and forced to register as a sex offender. Racial inequality would also skyrocket, partly because they want to put a federal ban on CRT (critical race theory), which could limit teaching on slavery, racism, and white supremacy. While this in itself is a hate crime, education would have to undergo a massive change in class structure to eliminate all that information. Something that could have a potentially more profound effect in smaller conservative areas is the passing of a Parents Bill of Rights, which would give power to the parents to choose the material the educators would be allowed to teach. While waging war on education is probably the dumbest and most fascist idea I can conjure, this would most likely only affect incredibly conservative areas, and the states / individual people would be given the power majority to decide their education.
It's widely known and accepted that Project 2025 is a blueprint for mass division and chaos. Largely, no matter which side of the political spectrum people are, the majority vastly dislike this document and see it as vile and completely unnecessary, so please DO NOT FRET. Project 2025 is not currently endorsed by Trump, which he says the document is “absolutely ridiculous and abysmal”. The purpose of this article is to inform, so please, take all of this with a grain of salt, but educate yourself as much as possible.
