Los Angeles is a bustling center of the arts, with many opportunities to engage, especially downtown. There’s the Disney Concert Hall, the La Opera, and the Ahmanson and Mark taper playhouses. However, tickets can be pretty expensive for students, so it can be hard to access all that Los Angeles has to offer. Here’s a guide for students on how to get free or discounted tickets at La Opera, La Phil, Center theatre group and others.

La Opera

Just complete the sign-up and then you will receive emails or texts about operas that you can receive some $25 dollar tickets. The tickets are not transferable, you must be in high school or college to be in the program, but your second ticket can be for whoever you want as a guest. The seats are great, with tickets available a lot of the time up front even on premieres that are usually quite expensive.

Mark Taper, Ahmanson, and Kirk Douglas

Just fill out the application and you can get 2 free tickets for yourself and a guest that is under 25. You can see current offers on the website about two weeks  before the performances. The only caveat is that there is a 5 dollar handling fee if you buy them on the website or by phone, but there is no charge if you buy them at the box office, where they can be bought in advance. Regardless, you will pick the tickets up the day of the performance at the box office.

LA Phil presented concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and The Ford

Read the linked page and you will find the signup link. If you do not already have an LA Phil account, you can make one. Once you do that, you will have (or still have) you can join the student insiders club and will give you the possibility of using a discount code at checkout for tickets on select performances.

To find which performances are available, you will have to reference the student tickets page, the link is providid above, and scroll to the upcoming performances header that has all the performances that the discount code will work on.

TeenTix LA

After you sign up through the button on the top right of the webpage, you just have to select if you are a teen or a parent, and then you can create your account. This is only available for teenagers aged 13-19 for 5$ tickets at select events and venues. TeenTix is available for many venues, so it is a little complicated.

If you want Teentix’s guide to signup, here it is. On the teentix website there is the calendar of all upcoming events, and a list of art partners if you want to see events by venue (there is also a weekly newsletter. After selecting an event, you can either reserve a ticket over the phone if available at that venue, or buy it at the box office (still call ahead to check availability).

Once at the box office, you show your pass (the qr code that pops up if you click my pass on the top right of the website), and pay 5$ cash and that’s it! If you want, you can also request a physical pass through the “my account” page.
