The ERHS Winter Showcase

Every year, the arts department culminated a showcase of their student’s best work. It’s an oppurtunity to show kids, parents, and staff just how incredible Eagle Rock’s talent is. Below is a photo gallery and descriptions of some of the show’s highlights.

Ms. Okada’s dance company delivered two dynamic group numbers, with impressive choreography and powerful execution. At the beginning of the show, Giana Hernandez and Bella Evaristo preformed a duet, with Valentina Covarrubias singing “What Was I Made For.”  The presentation was beautiful, with contemporary moves and stunning skills, like pirouettes and jetes. They preformed the same number at the Walt Disney Concert hall for an LAUSD event.

Ms. Silverman’s orchestra band performed a 3 piece arrangement, (“Chocolate, Coffee, and Trepek,”) from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. All the instruments blended seamlessly and created melodies that echoed around the whole auditorium. The symphonic band also performed a piece, “Fantasia on Greensleeves,” which was equally as ethereal and impressive.

The visual art students had plenty to showcase as well. The cartoon animation class had a collection of short videos, with fun characters and silly plot lines. They were all seamlessly executed and impressively drawn.

Cartoon animation wasn't the only visual art class with work to showcase. Ms. Maddox’s painting class put together a compilation of interviews, memories, and art. Her students shared their favorite projects and the audience got to see them shown on the big screen. Mr. Olivero’s AP art students also had the opportunity to share why their art was important to them. Images of the art were projected up on the stage while voiceovers explained their meaning.

”It was really cool to see a project that I’ve worked really hard on being shown to a bunch of people,” says 10th grader June Jacoby.

Noteworthy, the vocal group at our school, showcased their amazing talents on stage. Singing “Hallelujah,” “Super Trouper,” and “Linger,” they completely blew the crowd away with stunning vocals and harmonies. Their voices blended together in a beautiful way, and when students came forward for solos, you could hear all the individual effort that each member put in. They collaborated with Dance Company at the end of the show, singing “Say You’ll Be There” as students preformed choreography onstage. It was a great example of how different art forms can still be combined and celebrated together.

The very last act was Ms. Kissam’s Kissettes, an fun performance with theater company’s seniors. Decked out in funky clothes, they put on a great finale to an already spectacular show. The proceeds from the WInter Showcase went towards Ms. Silverman’s music department! They will allow her to grow the band and orchestra program, with new equipment and more opportunities for her students to learn from.

All in all, the showcase was a huge success - a year is too long to wait for the next one!
