The Red Sand Project is an event on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023 at Eagle Rock Highschool, hosted by the Women’s Charity and Support Club (WCSC). The aim of this event is to raise awareness and inform the people of our community about human trafficking through artistic sidewalk and earth installations. What is Human Trafficking? U.S. law defines human trafficking as the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel a person into commercial sex acts or labor or services against his or her will. The one exception involves minors and commercial sex. Inducing a minor into commercial sex is considered human trafficking regardless of the presence of force, fraud, or coercion. Molly Gochman, the creator of this project, has worked since 2015 to spread awareness around the world but Erin Campbell and Linet Danoukh have been working personally with the students of Eagle Rock to make us the first school in the district to participate in the project.
During 8th period on 04/25/2023, 5 teachers will take their students out of class to take part in The Red Sand Project by spreading red sand into the cracks of the cement around our campus. But don't worry if your teacher is not one of the 5 who volunteered, the Women’s Charity and Support Club will also be holding a short after-school event to spread red sand around the quad, snacks for the after-school event will be provided as well as planning calendars to thank you for your participation. Booths will be held at lunch on the 21st and the 25th of March for more information as well as after-school sign-ups.
